You are holding a recovery kit
Take your time. Nothing here has to happen today, and nothing in the kit expires.
Start with the printed guide
Every kit has a printed guide inside. It was written for this moment and it says the same things as this page, in the same order. Read it first.
Leave the seals alone for now
The sealed bags show that nothing has been touched. There is no reason to open them until the right people are together. If a seal is already broken, make a note of it and carry on; it does not stop the recovery.
Three kits, together
There are five kits like yours. Any three of them, brought together, recover what was protected. Yours alone recovers nothing, and that is by design.
The person who made the kits chose the five holders. Their executor, or their estate papers, should say who the others are. Start there.
Never send anything from the kit to anyone
No one will ever need you to read the words on a steel card over the phone, photograph them, type them into a website, or post a card. That includes us. Anyone who asks for them, however they explain it, is not acting for you.
How the recovery is done
With three kits in one room, the printed guide walks you through it step by step. It is done offline, with the cards in front of you, and takes an afternoon. You do not need Epoch Cipher to be present, or to exist.
If you cannot reach us
The kit does not depend on us. The split uses SLIP-39, an open standard, so the cards can be read without any tool of ours, and the printed guide explains how.
If you have one kit and do not know who has the others
Ask the executor or the family. If no one knows, keep your kit sealed and safe; it reveals nothing on its own, and it will still work when the others are found.
